Staying Human in a Digital World

Over the past few weeks, I’ve sat in a number of conversations where the topic of AI has come up and let’s just say, it’s not always warmly welcomed. There’s a certain tension in the air when it’s mentioned, almost like it’s a taboo topic. And I get it. There’s a growing sense that, as a society, we’re starting to lose something real in our rush to embrace artificial intelligence.

From a user’s perspective, I completely understand the frustration. Whether it’s navigating websites, talking to automated phone systems, or interacting with overly polished social media posts, it can often feel like the soul has been stripped from the experience. We crave real connection, genuine interaction, and that unmistakable human touch. And when that’s missing, it’s easy to feel disconnected or even dismissed.

But from a business standpoint? It’s a different story.

AI has opened up a world of efficiency and possibility. It’s allowed me to streamline operations, save time, and invest my energy in areas of my business that actually move the needle. Financially, it’s a game-changer, Less overhead, more output. It’s helped me grow in ways I wouldn’t have imagined if I were still trying to do it all manually.

And yet, I find myself sitting in this strange in-between space.

On one hand, I’m benefiting from the productivity and cost-effectiveness of AI. On the other hand, I’m watching as some of the heart and authenticity of business communication gets left behind. I worry about how this shift will affect not just consumer experience, but also the people whose jobs are directly impacted by these advances.

The reality is, there’s no turning back. The rise of AI is not a question of “if”, it’s a matter of “how.” How we adapt. How we integrate it responsibly. And how we remain grounded in our human values even as we move forward.

I recently heard a podcast host say, “It’s not the AI that’s the problem—it’s like a weapon. It depends on how it’s used and who’s using it.” That stuck with me. Because at the end of the day, AI is a tool. It’s not inherently good or bad it’s the intention and awareness behind it that matters.

So here’s where I land for now: we need to stay present, stay curious, and stay informed. The only way we avoid being left behind is by engaging with this space - not resisting it, but not surrendering completely to it either. Finding the balance will be messy, but it will be necessary.

We don’t have to fear the shift we just have to stay aware, stay intentional, and lead with heart.
